Childhood and Contagious Diseases

Children are more likely to suffer from contagious diseases because they are always in close contact with each other. Think about all the places that children are around each other and are given the chance to spread germs. Children often put things in their mouth and then pass it to other children. Children are always breathing, sneezing, and coughing on each other without meaning to. Fortunately for children, many disease that they contract, once contracted can result in a lifelong immunity for the child.

If you are a parent that has to put their child in a daycare environment then you need to make sure that you are putting them in the best and cleanest environment that you can find. Make sure that when you walk in there are signs posted telling people when to wash their hands. Daycare providers are often in contact with bodily fluids and they need to wash their hands after every diaper change or every time a child gets an injury. You need to make sure that the daycare has a clear area that is designed for diaper changes. If there is not a designated area then you should be concerned.

Ask the day care providers how often they sanatize the toys that they children played with. Idealy, they need to sanatize the toys that are played with during the day every night.

It would also be beneficial to ask if the daycare requires that their employees keep their vaccinations up to date and are required to have a hepatitis and flu vaccine. Most day care providers that are licenced are required to keep these up to date.
